The Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has thrown its weight behind Governor Udom Emmanuel’s aspiration for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
At its monthly congress held at the NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive in Uyo, on April 29, 2022, the union, however, urged other qualified Akwa Ibom sons to equally join the race.

In a communique signed by the Chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk and Secretary, Dominic Akpan, the union said it supports Governor Udom Emmanuel “for heeding the patriotic call to vie for the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and urged other qualified Akwa Ibom sons from other political parties who have what it takes to join the Presidential race.”

The union also commended the leading PDP Governorship aspirant, Pastor Umo Eno,for redeeming “his N10M pledge towards the Auditorium Project, a gesture that has fired the State Council to commence the roofing of the building, which work started 18 years ago.”

It equally commended the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong for  putting in place consistent human capacity development programmes for  Journalists in the State within and outside the country and elevation of deserving members of the Union working in the State Civil Service to higher ranks. Congress re-affirmed the confidence in his leadership of the Information Management machinery of Government.

While commending the efforts of the state government on financial transparency and access to information, the union, however, urged it to join 20 other States in Nigeria by signing up to the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in order to enjoy the accruable benefits.

The Union also charged its members to be objective and accurate in reporting political activities in the State, starting with the PDP Ward Congress for the election of Ad-hoc delegates on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
