Youths from Mbebam community of Ikpai clan in Akamkpa local government area of Cross River State have said why they want the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, to pick a woman to deputize him.

Addressing Journalists in Calabar, Sunday, a youth leader, Comrade Michael Obi Ntui, said that due to the present socio-economic challenges the State was facing, Cross River should opt for a mother figure to help Senator Onor in nurturing the State back to its feet.

It said such a mother should come from Akamkpa local government area since the area has become politically naked as both the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the PDP picked both their House of Representatives and senatorial candidates from Biase and Odukpani respectively.

Speaking while appealing to the leadership of the PDP in the state to pick a vibrant woman with a motherly disposition from Akamkpa for the plum job, Ntui said: “Due to our present socio-economic challenges, we need a mother figure to nurture Cross River back to its feet and such a mother should come from Akamkpa local government area.

“As we speak, the Akamkpa area is naked without anyone in the political equation of the State especially now that Daniel Asuquo, the former member of the House of Representatives from Akamkpa, had relinquished his position for a Biase man.

“If you look closely, APC picked its House of Reps candidate from Biase, PDP also from the same Biase. Ekpo Okon, the senatorial candidate of the PDP is from Odukpani. APC’s Senatorial candidate is from Odukpani too.

“Eta Mbora is from Calabar Municipality, Essien Ayi is picked from Calabar South, and there is no one from Akamkpa. We know that the ministerial appointment would go to Akpabuyo. You can see that Akamkpa would remain completely naked.

“We are advocating and appealing to the PDP leadership to choose its deputy governorship candidate from Akamkpa. At least, to give Akamkpa people a sense of belonging.”

Ntui, who was flanked by other youths leaders said Dr Queen Eunice Okey fits into the picture of a lady who they believe has capacity and grace as a mother to join hands with the PDP guber candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, to take Cross River to another height.

“Dr Queen Eunice Okey is the one we see with capacity. She is a grassroots mobilizer and a woman who is down to earth. She has a wider reach as far as grassroots politics is concerned,” Ntui stated.
