The Cross River State police command has rescued a 22 year old kidnap victim, Ogwo Samuel barely 24 hours after his abduction an unidentified gunmen.
Meanwhile the kidnappers are said to be on the run as the police mounts a manhunt in the forest area for them.
Samuel was abducted on September 28 at his residence at Intergro near the raven in 8 miles, Calabar Municipality of Cross River state .
Top police sources said the rescue was though a covert operation by the anti kidnapping and Cultism Squad led by, SP. A Awodi and his Dragon team that swung into action immediately the Police was alerted.
The sources further said the success recorded by the Squad was on the heels of the charge given to them by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aminu Alhassan to rid the state of criminals as the Dragon Squad swung into action through a tip off and rescued the victim at about 0200 hours
The sources said, “We took the operation to a location, Etomkpe by Nasarawa ,Bacoco ,inside 8 miles in the outskirts of Calabar metropolis where the victim was taken to.
“While approaching the location ,the suspects on sighting the police took to their heels as the operation was covert and they were caught off guard, the police could not react with actionable force because the location is a residential area”.
The victim who was blind folded and chained to a tyre on his legs was rescued and has been taken to a hospital for medical check up and treatment.
Meanwhile on searching the place two locally made pistols , three live cartridges and one expended cartridge, assorted phones amongst others abandoned by the hoodlums were recovered, police sources said.
