The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu V has called on journalists to approach their job with dedication and boldness if they expect society to accord them the pride of place that is associated with the profession.

The Obong who made the plea when members of the Central Planning Committee (CPC) of the 2022 Media Week paid him homage to seek for royal blessings for the event, also noted that in the past the public looked up to the media for direction but today the steam in the practice of the profession appears to be low shifting focus.

The Obong who stated that as watch dogs of the society, journalism grand norm did not accord journalists such enviable status for them to sit on the fence as if the journalism practice is all about bread and butter, advised media men “to wake up to the clarion call of agenda setters”.

The treaty king and patriarch of the Efik kingdom who expressed delight in being invited to grace the occasion as the royal father of the day during the media summit and lecture event slated for Friday November 25th, stated that the media week has awakened a positive consciousness in the minds of the public that media men are ready to take the bull by the horn without fear or hindrance, especially coming at a time when the cry of hunger is so loud in the land.

The Chairman of the State Council of NUJ, Comrade Nsa Gill had earlier informed Obong in council of the readiness of the union to host the media week while seeking for royal blessings.

He used the occasion to inform the Obong of the dignitaries expected to grace the occasion and this includes the governor of kano state, Dr, Abdulahi Umar Ganduje ,CON and many others.
