Explosion at Eburutu Barracks, it’s Routine Disposal of Expired Explosives, Army

The 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has attributed current explosion at Eburutu Barracks as a normal disposal of expired explosives.

As at October 14, some residents panicked as explosions rocked the air shaking buildings in the neighborhood of Eburutu barracks and some roofs and window panes were said to have been destroyed.

An eyewitness at the Gulf Estate by the Barracks who simply gave his name as Peter said, “a man and his family were seriously affected as his roof was blown off and the man had to rush his family to an unknown private clinic for medical attention “.

The 13 Brigade Army Public Relations Officer, Captain Aluko Tope, did not say anything specifically on the explosion but issued a statement suggesting that the explosion may not be unconnected with the disposal of expired explosives that started on October 14.

She said the Brigade “would be conducting a disposal of expired explosives at  the Shooting Range Calabar from 14 to 17 October 2021.

“The exercise is a routine military exercised aimed to detonate expired explosives. Members of Ikot Effangha, Ikot Ansa, and Lemina communities are advised to stay off range area during the exercise. The general  public are equally urged not to panic from sound of explosives but go about their lawful daily activities”.

 Captain Tope said, “Sequel to the above, you are please requested to inform the general public of the routine exercise . Thanks for your usual cooperation”.
