LP Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi

The Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi has been advised to declare one week of grassroots campaign if he wants to win the 2023 election.

A Calabar based medical doctor, Dr. Mike Smart in a statement issued in Calabar on February 15, said Obi should take a week before the election to declare as “grassroots mobilisation week” and “tell all supporters (Students,  Professionals,  businessmen, etc ) to make phone calls or directly tell their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, cousins, nephews, nieces, neighbours, and friends of the need to vote Peter Obi as President of Nigeria come 2023 presidential election”.

Smart who is worried about Obi’s reach in the grassroots said his supporters and others should show the people symbols of the LP to thumbprint on election day and they should also ” tell them not to collect money from anyone to vote on the contrary on election day.

“The supporters should tell their loved ones that they won’t die if they reject that money on that election day because they have not died for the past eight years that the politicians forgot them”.

The idea according to him “is that all Obi-dient supporters and students are from villages and their loved ones are more likely to listen to them when they tell them that it is about their lives and their future, than listen to the APC or PDP ward Chairmen and Secretaries on that election day” .

He said “the APC and PDP brag that they have structures all over the country, and Peter Obi doesn’t have. They are right. It is those APC or PDP ward Chairman and Secretaries in all villages of Nigeria that are the structures they talk about. They are the ones that have so educated the villagers to thumbprint beside  the broom or Umbrella logos of APC or PDP over the years.

“They are the ones that liaise with the LGA APC or PDP executives to collect rice, salt, maggi, etc, or money to distribute to the villagers on election days. They have so indoctrinated the villagers to make them believe that they must be given these foodstuff or money for them to vote any party when elections come like now.

“So here we are with both APC and PDP already mobilised and waiting for the eve of the elections to distribute these stuff and money. Note that most village men and women do not have access to social media and therefore do not know or have heard of Peter Obi. They also don’t understand the dynamics or consequences of voting people who do not have as much competence and vitality like Peter Obi. All they know is what those ward Chairmen and party executives have told them to do”.

Smart pointed out that, “most Obi-dient supporters (from students, the unemployed to the professionals and businessmen) have not even converted their immediate family members to vote Peter Obi. The ones that have done that have not also told them the logo of the labour party to thumbprint on election day. It is not enough to support Obi in the city while your immediate family in the village is voting for someone else. Winning elections is winning in the villages”.

So what should Peter Obi do by himself to win the elections is to ask his supporters to also show the people in the rural areas the symbol of the Labour party to thumbprint on election day and he “must call out students and the unemployed every day to carry out this assignment as their future depends on this election.

“Peter Obi must be the one charging the support base EVERY DAY through his Twitter handle or in the campaign grounds on a constant basis. He must call on *diaspora Nigerian* supporters to do the same by calling their loved ones and dependents telling them what to do with clear instructions.

“He should ask his supporters to sacrifice by travelling to wherever they have registered to vote on election day.  He should tell them that this is a once in a lifetime sacrifice worth making. This is how to dismantle the so-called structures. Luckily, students would be home following the declared holidays so they can educate their parents, neighbours, and others. The unemployed should also know that this is their chance and they can not afford to let it go. Let them educate their parents, neighbours and loved ones, too”.

He pointed out that “the idea is that all Obi-dient supporters, professionals, businessmen, the unemployed and students are from villages and their loved ones are more likely to listen to them when they tell them that it is about their lives and their future, than listen to the APC or PDP ward Chairmen and Secretaries on that election day.

“It is possible to take back Nigeria and it is doable if all Obi-dient supporters are involved. It will be a tsunami in villages on that election day when we all do this and get involved” .
