New Electoral Law Will Give Power To The People, Gershom Bassey

…Commends Edet”s Victory At By-Election

The Senator representing Cross River South Senatorial in the Senate, Senator Gershom Bassey has commended President Mohammadu Buhari for signing the Electoral bill into law saying “it will go a long way to truely give power to the people”.

Bassey who said this while congratulating Dr Effiom Ekeng Edet, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the just concluded Akpabuyo State constituency by-election, pointed out that, “the electoral law that Mr President just signed gives us hope.

“It was a job well done by the national assembly and will go a long way to truely giving power to the people”.

The Senator who is also the Cross River Caucus Chairman in the National Assembly, commended Edet on “his landslide  victory in seven out of 10 wards in Akpabuyo despite attempts by opponents  to disrupt the elections in several wards. 

” I also congratulate the National Assembly and Mr President for delivering a robust electoral law to Nigerians”.

Commenting on the performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the election, Bassey is eyeing the 2023 governorship seat of the state, stated, “clearly there were improvements on the part of INEC in the House of Assembly by-election” as compared to previous ones.

However, he said “there were some  security lapses which must be improved on in subsequent elections. Several incidents have been filed with the police” .

On the significance of the victory by the PDP, excited lawmaker said, “this is a sign that the PDP is coming back” to recapture the state and put it back on track.
