The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Cross River State, Mr Efiom Okokon has said that his involvement in the 2023 guber race is to rescue the state from socio-economic uncertainty.
Mr Okokon, who said this in Calabar while speaking with the Journalists at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press center, weekend, promised that his party would “revamp the economy of the state and restore the state to that position where the state was known for.”
Okokon further promised to introduce a tax reduction policy to encourage investors / companies to remain in business, saying such policy would put more into people’s pockets, and that it was wrong for government to regard taxation as a major source of income generation for the state.
According to him, tax burden over the years had scared off many business owners and causing them to relocate to other states.
“We need new money to come to the state through new investments and friendly tax policies; we will look at the tax regime and reduce company taxes for people to have value to their money. This new tax policy will put money into people’s pockets,” he reiterated. Effiom also unveiled other areas of his priority to include rural development to curb urban migration, tourism, improvement in the agriculture value chain, and adequate maintenance of security.
