The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Calabar, Prof Florence Banku Obi has described the hosting right granted the institution to host the 26th Zonal Preliminaries of the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) as a great honour.
The Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof Michael Okom stated this at the Council Chamber of the institution office while addressing Members of the NUGA Games committee recently.
Prof Obi said she was pleased with the choice of Unical as the host institution for the NUGA Games as it will improve sporting facilities in the institution and also contribute to the economic wellbeing of the members of the University community.
She said, as a sports enthusiast, she is committed to ensuring that sport is given priority attention.
Responding, the Zonal Chairman of the NUGA Games Committee, Dr Joseph Ukpong said the committee is working tirelessly to ensure that everything is put in place for the successful hosting of the games and expressed optimism that the competition will be the best in the history of NUGA games.
Dr Ukpong appealed to the University management not to rest on its oars as the successful hosting of the 26th edition of the competition will guarantee the institution the 27th hosting right.
