EU, Netherlands To Support Nigeria In Job Creation, Tackle Poverty, Irregular Migration

The European Union (EU), the Government of Netherlands, and Ministers have made commitments on immediate support to Nigeria to create jobs for its teaming youthful population, tackle poverty and irregular migration.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu secured this commitment at the just concluded “Rabat Process Thematic Meeting On Migration, Youth, and Development” at the Hague, Netherland.

A press release by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Rasheed Olanrewaju Zubair at weekend, said such a commitment is a means of eradicating poverty, unemployment and irregular migration in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigeria.

Part of the commitments include the visit of the Netherlands and EU leadership to Nigeria for situation analysis and key stakeholders engagement, support for the implementation plan for poverty Alleviation in Nigeria, the return of Netherlands long stay visa issuance from the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana office back to Netherlands Embassy in Nigeria amongst others.

The meeting had the European Union Commission Director General for International Development, Erica Gerrestsen; the Minister for Justice and Minister of Security Netherlands, Netherlands Secretary General Ministry of Foreign Affairs Paul Huijts; Netherlands Special Envoy for Migration Peter Schuurman; Head of Section Sahel, Africa and Great Lakes Tijmen Rooseboom, among others.

On the Nigerian Government delegation, was the Ambassador of Nigeria to the Netherlands Dr Eniola Ajayi; the Federal High Commissioner on Refugees Migrants and internally displaced Persons Hon Tijani Ahmed and others.

Earlier, the Nigeria Envoy to Netherlands, had described President Tinubu’s administration as a government that knows how to head-hunt and harvest intellectual professionals imbued with the Renewed Hope road-map on poverty alleviation and humanitarian challenges not only in Nigeria but on the continent of Africa.

Dr. Ajayi, made this known when she received the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Edu, and her entourage to the Nigeria House in the Hague saying the presentation of the Minister at the Rabat Process Thematic Meeting On Migration, Youth, and Development clearly showed she is a round peg in a round hole.

She said Edu, spoke growly of  President Tinubu’s policy framework on reducing Humanitarian crises and multi-dimensional Poverty in Nigeria and his efforts to tackle the causes from the tap root which includes illegal migration among the youths.

According to her, “the government and people of Netherlands have confided in me how proud they were seeing the Minister addressing all issues raised one after the other; they were impressed and they promised to spread the message”.
