Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Frank Archibong has charged Local Government Council Chairmen in the state to demonstrate a greater commonality of purpose in their commitment and dedication to the success of the completion agenda of the government of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Addressing the 31 Local Government Council Chairmen in his office in Uyo, at an interactive session with the State Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP), Elder Aniekan Akpan, the Commissioner said it is only by so doing that they will live up to their roles as critical components in the Governor’s drive to develop every part of the state.
He, however, praised them for working in synergy with, and showing fidelity to, the PDP and its leader, the Governor, urging them to continue in that light as the 2023 general elections approaches. He assured the state party chairman of the Chairmen’s commitment to work with the party to achieve another round of success for the party in 2023.
“Chairmen of council and party leaders are critical components in driving development to the grassroot. We can recall that some years back, they stood firm with the people and the party to ensure the enthronement of a performing leader in the person of Deacon Udom Emmanuel. I am confidently sure that going forward; considering their loyalty and support; we will have same result in 2023.”
He described Governor Emmanuel as a leader passionate about leaving Akwa Ibom State in the hands of those who will continue to build on the foundation of tolerance, mutuality and plurality, and the attendant peace, unity and development, he has laid.
On the party Chairman, he said “Your emergence as Chairman of our great party would not have come at a better time when loyalty is extremely required and has brought a man who is an embodiment of loyalty to steer the ship of the party shows that we are heading the right direction and portrays you as a square peg in a squared hole”.
Hon Archibong called on members of the PDP to participate in the on going continuous voters e-, registration and party membership revalidation exercises.
On his part, Elder Akpan appreciated the Council Chairmen for their roles as critical stakeholders in the party’s grassroots mobilisation and electoral processes programmes. He urged them to do all within their powers to keep the party structure in the Local Government Areas intact. He also praised Governor Emmanuel for setting up the Maintain Peace Movement, MPM, in his quest to sustain the peace that has been prevalent in the state in the last six years. He called for frequent interactions between the party and the Chairmen, thanking Hon Archibong for the initiative
“There is need for us to regularly meet, strategize and exchange ideas. The recent launching of the Maintain Peace Movement is a great testimony of what God is doing in Akwa Ibom State under Governor Udom Emmanuel, and must be sustained.”
