The massive three stories library building of the University of Calabar has been shut down over building collapse scare.

Before now, the current Management of the University of Calabar under Prof Florence Obi as the Vice Chancellor had earlier declared a state of emergency on the debilitating left wing of the Library.

A statement from the Public Relations department yesterday credited to the  Registrar of the University, Mr Gabriel Egbe said the Vice Chancellor ordered the formal shut down following the report of an explosive sound that rocked the Special Education wing of the Library.

He said that the Vice Chancellor has further directed “all staff and students to keep off the building owing to the impact of the explosion”.

The statement which Egbe stated that the decision is with immediate effect has accordingly directed the University Librarian and the Chief Security Officer “to jointly ensure urgent and total evacuation of staff, students and University properties out of the building as well as enforce the sealing of the structure”.
