Over 250 Teenagers Participate In NYG Cricket Events

Nigeria Cricket Federation, (NCF) authorities this year have a handful of future cricket stars to handle as the National Youth Games, (NYG) kicked off today in Asaba, Delta State, as the sport stands shoulder high as the best-organized in Nigeria.

Over 250 youngsters from 14 states have already competed in cricket tournaments at Asaba Delta State’s St. Patrick’s College Cricket Ground and Government Model Secondary School.

There are 10 states represented in the Boys ODI category, with Akwa Ibom leading Group A with four points from two matches as of Monday morning. Akwa Ibom overcame Edo and Ebonyi to maintain their position as a medal contender in the group. Other teams in Male Group A include Ebonyi, Edo, Delta, and Kaduna.

Anambra, Bauchi, Kwara, Lagos, and Sokoto are among the Group B teams. Kwara defeated Lagos by 10 runs on Monday, while Anambra defeated Bauchi by 10 wickets. Kwara leads Group B with six points from three games.

In the Female category, eight states are represented, and Delta State leads Group A with four points from two games. Kaduna, the northern cricket powerhouse, now leads Group B.

The first medal ceremony for the current 10-overs format of cricket in the NYG will be held on Wednesday 27 September 2023.
