| Philip Obaji Nigerian journalist Philip Obaji is among 10 individuals and organizations shortlisted for the 2022 Human Rights Tulip, a prize that the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs awards each year to a human rights defender or human rights organization to support their important work. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday that Obaji “has worked for the past decade to protect refugees and displaced persons and help tell their stories” and has “reported on topics including the victims of the Boko Haram uprising in Nigeria and female survivors of the conflict in Mali who were sold to human traffickers in Niger.” Obaji, the foreign ministry said, has also “managed to publish these stories in some of the world’s most authoritative newspapers and magazines. The top 10 candidates, which also include Iraqi Nobel Peace Prize winner, Nadia Murad, and the Ukrainian 5 AM Coalition were selected from 80 nominees across the world “on the basis of the impact of their work on society, and their courage in striving to promote human rights despite threats and attacks,” according to the organizers. The winner, which will be announced in December, receives a bronze tulip and €100,000 – the biggest prize in the world for human rights campaigners alone. Obaji is from Cross River State, a Nigerian Journalist, activist and founder of 1 Game, a non violence football campaign. |
