Residents of Calabar are relieved as the state police command has neutralized a notorious kidnap kingpin and armed robber, ,Kufre Ekpo Etim, alias Romance .
Etim has been on the state government and Police wanted list for about three years and residents of Calabar have heaved a sigh of relief following the arrest.
They commended the police for a job well done but prayed that the police should not relent until they get others and sanitize the state of criminals.
A resident in Calabar South, Mr. Sunday Etim said, “kidnappers and armed robbers have been disturbing us here seriously and I am very sure this Etim that has been arrested contributed. One by one God will disgrace them and we will have peace. The police have done well” .
Etim was apprehended by Mr. Ogini Chukwuma led Anti Cultism and Kidnapping Squad, (ACKS) of Cross River state late on Tuesday in a hideout near the University of Cross River in Calabar after a gun duel that left seriously injured but his gang members escaped by the whiskers.
He has been terrorizing Calabar metropolis and its environs and some parts of Akwa Ibom for quite some time now before he met his waterloo.
The kidnap kingpin and an armed robber who has killed scores and kidnapped dozens of medical doctors , lecturers especially from University of Calabar and others was arrested based on credible intelligence by the ACKS that swung into action immediately. .
The Cross River State Commissioner of Police , Mr. Sule Balarabe who confirmed the arrest said that it was a big win for the police, the government and the good people of the state.
He said, “the notorious kidnap kingpin has been terrorizing Cross River and parts of a neighbouring state for years, we are glad that he has been apprehended, he has been on the wanted list for three years and we finally picked him up” .
He however appealed to members of the public to always assist the police with useful information that could lead to the capture of criminals in the society.
