The support base of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the party’s governorship candidate in Cross River, Senator (Prof) Sandy Onor, may have swelled with the arrival of a grassroots national movement, Door to Door Grassroots Christian Campaign for Atiku and Sandy.

The support group, which has Bishop Dr Stanley Joseph as national coordinator, and boasts of national spread, is said to be poised to penetrate and educate people at the grassroots on Alhaji Abubakar’s ambition and the possibility of both Atiku and Sandy winning the 2023 polls.

Speaking in Calabar while inaugurating State and local government coordinators of the group, Bishop Joseph said Alhaji Atiku Abubakar would take over the affairs of the country and perform in the spirit of the late President Umaru Musa Yara’dua.

He said with the inauguration of the group in Calabar, it would go all out to work for the victory of both Alhaji Atiku and Sandy Onor in next year’s presidential and governorship elections.

His words: “Nigeria has come to another cross road again, looking for a leader that will take her to her promised land. We were going out of Egypt when suddenly APC took us back to Egypt but God, in his infinity mercy, has heard the cry of his people and has decided to bring His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to take us to the promised land.

“It is God who chooses whom he will use after his own heart. If not for the demise of former president Yar’Adua, by now Nigeria would have been like Dubai. Permit me to say that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is coming in the spirit of Yar ‘Adua. He will take us to the promised land.

“Some people are shouting Peter Obi, some are shouting Bola Tinubu but I have told people that I don’t do sentimental, tribal, regional or prophecy politics. Politics is pure calculation and reality, couple with structures.

“As a Bishop, some people have asked me why I am involved in politics. My response has always been that I have an ecclesiastical and political mandate, and that there are prophets that God calls to point at, not prophecy, but to point at who will take the place of leadership par time by the person’s pedigree and antecedent and capacity, which Atiku has. The Atiku that I know is a father, a leader and a philanthropist.”

in his remarks, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mike Ojisi, who represented the State Chairman, Vena Ikem, charged members of the group to go from house to house to educate Cross River state people on the need to get Permanent Voter’s Cards, PVCs.

Ojisi said Churches in his community are ensuring the people present their PVCs before accessing worship centres. He called on Cross Riverians to take the issue of PVC as a top priority, saying doing so would usher in the needed changes in Nigeria’s body polity which everyone is clamouring for.
