Ashang Becomes First Serving Cross River Attorney General To Attain SAN

The Cross River State Attorney General and Honorable Commission for Justice, Tanko Ashang has clinched the highly coveted rank of Senior Advocate of Nigerian(SAN), making him the first serving Attorney General in Cross River State to attain such feat.

The Commissioner for Justice who was recently elevated to the prestigious rank along with 61 other senior lawyers across the country, expressed excitement over his appointment, describing it as a great opportunity to add value to justice development in the country.

Ashang said his appointment as Senior Advocate will not only add value to the office of Attorney General but also to the state at large.

According to him “ States now are categorized based on the competence and capacity of their personnel, so Cross River has now been elevated to the class of states that have Senior Advocates as Attorney General. Gaining the rank while serving in this office also shows the dexterity of the Ministry of Justice because the cases emanating from this ministry is the work of the lawyers in this ministry. So it has added value to the development of law in this country.”

While expressing gratitude to Governor Ayade for his support, he said “It’s a privilege to work in this state and be so elevated. I am grateful to Governor Ben Ayade who found me worthy to serve in the office of attorney general and gave me all the cooperation that led to my appointment as Senior Advocate”

Ashang further stated that his elevation to the rank is a call for more work, he assured of his commitment to promote justice and the rule of law in the state and country; and also uphold the ethics and standards of the profession.

The rank of Senior Advocate is awarded as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession who have distinguished themselves as advocates and academics.

The swearing-in ceremony will hold on the 21st of November, 2022 at the Supreme Court, Abuja.
