Akpabio’s Development Strides In Akwa Ibom Is Second To Non, President Buhari

.As Thousands Get Free Medical Treatment On Birthday 

President Mohammadu Buhari has described the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio’s giant stride development in Akwa Ibom state during his tenure as governor as second to non.

President Buhari said this in his message felicitation to the former governor of Akwa Ibom on his 60th birthday, December 9, 2022, celebrating with him for his giant strides in leadership and service to the nation.

The President whose message was conveyed by his Special Adviser Media & Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina joined members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in serenading the party chieftain, “whose visionary style of leadership continues to inspire and outstand, starting from his state, where he led for eight years, and changed the landscape, turning it into a national and global reference for social, economic and infrastructural development” .

President Buhari noted the contributions of Akpabio to the political developments in the country, serving as Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lands and Housing, before being elected Governor in 2007, and consistently remaining vocal and vibrant, especially as Senate Minority Leader.

The President who prayed for God’s blessings for Sen. Akpabio and his family with longer life, good health and prosperity congratulated the former governor and prominent leader of the South-South for his efforts in “promoting the wellbeing of his people, and maintaining a healthy relationship for peace and understanding at the national level” .

Meanwhile, Godswill Akpabio Foundation on December 7, 2022, organised a medical outreach programme at Godswill Akpabio pavilion in Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government Area to set the tone for the celebration of his birthday. 

The programme witnessed a massive turn out of people made up of the elderly, men, women, the youth and children thronged the venue in search of healthcare. 

The comprehensive medical intervention programme saw some ailing old women and children being diagnosed of various diseases while other health personnel counselled them, administered drugs and injections as may be required.

Beneficiaries and many others who found their way to the pavilion were also sumptuously fed and given clothings and some cash.

A beneficiary from Ukanafun, Madam Nelly Udousoro who spoke to newsmen at the venue thanked Senator Godswill Akpabio for the medical intervention and prayed for God’s continued blessing upon his family. She expressed the need for the programme to be carried out on a regular basis to save lives of the rural dwellers.

A medical personnel who pleaded anonymity said the first day of medical outreach programme was very successful as patients were properly attended to saying the Team had recorded predominantly cases of malaria, typhoid and high blood pressure and the patients were counseled and given drugs.

Wife of the former Governor and former First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Godswill Akpabio who was on hand to direct proceedings said she was satisfied with the turnout for the medical intervention and thanked God for another opportunity for the family to impact on lives of the people.

The medical outreach programme continues while the birthday will be rounded up on Friday, December 9 with a thanksgiving mass and a rally in Ikot Ekpene.
