An Elder statesman in Cross River, Dr David Okon, has given reasons why he believes strongly that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 25 election, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would win the forthcoming presidential election.

Dr  Okon, who is also the Chairman of the APC Elders Forum in the State, bared his mind in Calabar during the inauguration of State, senatorial and local government coordinators of Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council for Cross River.

He said Tinubu’s massive grassroots support which comes as a result of his disposition in infrastructural and human capacity developments were enough to give the former Lagos State governor victory in first ballot.

“I have said this on several occasions without any equivocation that Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate will win in first ballot. This is because apart from the level of acceptability and love for Senator Bola Tinubu across the country, the campaign is generally grassroots-based.

“The Phenomenon called Tinubu has, apart from touching lives, made things to happen where it would not have ordinarily worked. What he did in Lagos State stands him out as a colossus in capital, infrastructural and human development and I know all of us would want a situation where such feats are replicated in Nigeria.

“He is progressive and is one man that can cause things to happen. This is why Nigerians want him, this is why he is going to win massively to create a new paradise with renewed hope for this nation.

“The support he is getting is from the grassroots and I know he does not play elitist or metropolitan politics,” Okon, who is also Coordinator-General of the Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council in the State, submitted.

While charging the coordinators to get more involved and deliver the Tinubu message in their wards and polling units as good disciples, he explained that the “ICC is not competing with the presidential campaign council (PCC) and is basically for grassroots mobilization.”

He called on Cross River state people to join the train in making Asiwaju Bola Tinubu president, adding, “Everyone should join this train in which Jagaban has railed across the nation with grit, acceptability, gumption and high sense of duty, patriotism and responsibility.

“The expectations are high, the message is loud and the final victory is assured and by the grace of God who rewards hard work, sincerity and commitment.

“We need the victory for our maritime industry, our tourism renewal, the Bakassi resettlement, and surplus appointment of our people into national assignments and offices. I see success shining like the bright morning sun at the doorsteps of our renewed nationhood,” he stated.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion and party stalwart, Prof Eyo Etim Nyong said “until one grabs the grassroots, he has not known politics because politics is grassroots based. Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu has already grabbed the grassroots and is still doing it.

Professor Nyong said : “And we will continue to mobilize grassroots support for his victory. Our focus is five over five. We will deliver the presidency, Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly for the APC.”

Our reporter, who monitored the inauguration, said a legal practitioner in the State, Barr Bassey Ekpenyong, conducted the swearing-in with a massive crowd of supporters and party bigwigs in attendance.
